Sabbath observance during a retreat

We are happy to accommodate Sabbath observers at a retreat in Ein Dor

Sabbath observance - putting on Tefillin and praying - can be done while maintaining the silence and other guidelines that support the practices for all the participants in the retreat.

Please let us know on the registration form that you are a Sabbath observer so that we can prepare in advance.

Kitchen, food, utensils

Our kitchen is dairy-vegetarian.

The vegetables and fruit are ordered from major external service providers as are the dry goods.

The kitchen does not check cereals and legumes. The greens used for cooking and seasoning are not from insect-free crops but are soaked in water and washed well before use.

Most of the cooking and serving utensils were purchased by us; however there are also some that came as donations from different households and so we have no knowledge of what was cooked or served in them. A personal plate and cutlery can be brought for use during the retreat.

Friday night

There will be candles, kiddush wine, challah, and salt.

Candles can be lit independently until 18:00.

At 18:00, before dinner, there will be a short kiddush service with one song and a blessing.
The kiddush takes place in one of the classrooms and not in the dining room.

In order to maintain the time framework for the retreat, please arrive for dinner by 18:15.

The Sabbath

Use of electricity - In the meditation hall, lighting, air conditioning and sound systems are turned on during the Sabbath and are not controlled by a Sabbath timer/clock.

Take into consideration that you are expected to be present in the meditation hall during the Sabbath.

The dining room also has lighting and air conditioning under the same conditions.

Kosher meals for Shabbat - Before the Sabbath begins, in a separate area for Sabbat hobservers, we will turn on a hot plate and set up a thermos with hot water. Non-liquid dishes, which were cooked before the Sabbath, will be placed on the hot plate.

Shabbat departure - Sabbath observers are invited to stay until the Sabbath ends; likewise, they can offer Dana when the Sabbath is over.
