שויצרי במקורו, החל ללמוד ולתרגל בודהיזם טיבטי בשנת 1970.
במשך שנים הוא תרגם את הרצאותיו של המורה הטיבטי גשה ראבטן . בנוסף לתרגול ולימוד במסורת המאהאיאנה , צ’ארלס תרגל גם בקורסים רבים של מסורת התרוואדה בהודו, בורמה וארה"ב. מזה שנים שהוא מלמד מדיטציה בודהיסטית ומנחה קורסים בצרפת, ארה"ב, אנגליה ושוויץ.
